Hi,

It’s been a while since I posted something here and I admit that the headline is a little provocative. Though a little true.

You see, there are so many people out there either stuck in dead end jobs or can’t wait for 5 o’clock to roll around it’s untrue. Many even fantasize about owning or running their own business but never take action on the initial thoughts.

As the headline says “stop thinking about it and do it”. What I really mean is, You’re a least some of the way there if you’re even thinking about. All you need to do is research what you passionate about and what gets you exited, and that’s the start of what you could possibly do to start your own business.

When I first started my cleaning businesses, I gave it about a week’s thought and then took action. Don’t get me wrong, it was a calculated risk where the market was there, I just needed to tweek the service side of things to steal business from the competition. If I’d had just thought about it, I’d be in exactly the same position for the next x amount of years.

If you can, at least try and research what business you’d like to start and believe it or not, you’ll be one step ahead than you were before your initial thoughts!

MAME - All About Custom Arcade Machines

Let me introduce MAME. Now if you’re serious about arcade machines, you’ve already heard of it. For those of you who haven’t, MAME stands for multiple arcade machine emulator. If you aren’t excited yet, I should probably explain to you what that means.

An emulator is an application which usually runs on Windows, Linux or in rare cases on some other OS, but which plays games designed for other, usually older systems. What MAME does is emulates games from old arcade machines, allowing you to play them on your computer. The really exciting part is this; a whole community has now developed around building arcade cabinets to house computer systems running the MAME software. This means that you can play tons of old arcade games, all on the same arcade cabinet , and it won’t cost you any quarters!

Now, MAME is hardly new. It was first publicly released in 1997 by Nicola Salmoria. Since then, support has grown to 3688 different games that you can play. You could have 3688 games all in one arcade machine, and switch between them with a few clicks of a button! And did I mention no quarters?

There are tons of resources available that will guide you through the creation of arcade machines from start to finish. Some of the things you will need are:

• Cabinet – These are usually built from plywood and painted or covered in decals decals to resemble some nostalgic machine of days past. These cabinets must be specially designed to fit the other parts.
• Computer – These days, you aren’t going to need a top of the line computer to run such old arcade games. As long as it has the inputs, graphics, and sound capabilities called for by the controller, monitor/TV and speaker, it should work.
• Control Panel – There are premade arcade style control panels available for purchase online. Many people prefer to build their own using a wooden panel with holes cut out, allowing joysticks and buttons to be mounted to the cabinet. When building your own, you will have to deal with a lot of tricky wiring, but there are tons of resources that will guide you through it if you take this path.
• Display – The display will be housed within the cabinet. The display can be anything from an old CRT monitor to a huge HD LCD TV. The important thing is picking something that will actually fit in your cabinet, and won’t be too much for your computer.

I would suggest rolling all of your quarters and taking them to the bank. You won’t be needing all that loose change once you’ve got all of those arcade games in the comfort of your own home. Just round up an old computer, some wood and a few cheap parts, and arcade games will forever be free!

I know this is a strange question to ask as it sounds a bit crazy. Unless you know if you are spending more than you earn you won’t be able to calculate possible savings for future purchases or lowering your debt.

Monthly Savings

Monthly savings can be achieved by cutting your monthly outgoings/bills which means changing your finances and not your whole life. If you are still having problems cutting back, it may well mean that you do need to change your lifestyle as well as cutting back. A lot of people find this sort of action a bit heavy and extreme. This is fine, but unless you evaluate your monthly income and expenditure you’ll always be on the wrong side of debt.

You may be a person that spends less than they earn, and in this case you simply need to free up wasted cash so it stays in your pocket and not in your local boutique. This is why it’s vital for you to find out exactly where you stand. There are two ways you can do this:

Danger Signals

Are you in debt? And if you are what are your debts from? If you didn’t purchase something of significance, i.e. buying a car or buying a motor home, but used your credit card to literally plug the hole in your repayments, this will undoubtedly highlight the danger signals. You are in a position where you are spending more than you earn.

Take Action and Review Your Finances

The best place to start is to have two columns of income and expenditure. Tally both sections and then deduct your expenditure from your income. 1. Build a healthy credit profile

Do you have credit cards? I know the majority of us do. Well, the first thing you need to do is know how to manage them. How you manage them affects your creditworthiness. Try and use them sparingly and be sensitive to the terms of the payment agreements you’ve made. If the cut off point for making a payment to your credit card company is out of sync. Simply ask them alter your billing cycle or adjust it. They may or may not do this. The fact is, you won’t know until you ask.

2. Notify creditors of a change of address

So many people fall into this trap. They basically move house and then think by some way of magic the creditor will know where they’ve moved too. Unfortunately, they won’t. What you’re dealing with is a computer that sends out pre-written and standard letters. It runs in a cycle, sort of like an auto responder. It’s not there to think. It’s basically there to send documents and info to intended recipient. In the days of the super information highway, you can simply and easily do this online if you’ve got a computer.

3. Set up A Direct Debit

The majority of companies, whether they’re gas or electric companies etc will ask you to pay by direct debit. The strange thing is this particular service actually discriminates against the poor. Why? Well most of these companies actually offer a form of discount if you pay by direct debit. Most of the time it’s the poor that don’t pay their bills in this way. Thus they end up paying more. So, if you have a bank account, try to pay by direct debit. Even if it’s not a lot, the company you’re dealing with would prefer it and you’ll also get a discount, saving you money in the long run.

4. Manage your debts—reduce them too!

“Where did all my money go?” How many times have you said that and wondered if a thief had tip toed into your bank account overnight and fleeced your money. The best thing to do is budget your money. Actually list on a spreadsheet your incomings and outgoings. If you don’t have a spreadsheet or you don’t know how to use them, don’t worry. At the bottom of this article there’s a link that will take you to a page that has already set one up and which you can use to start budgeting your finances. Start the list out with your fixed income and then on the next list write down your expenses. Obviously, when you subtract the two you’ll get the amount of money that you have left at the end of the month.

5. Think before you purchase.

Seems pretty simple doesn’t it. Well, so many people make this very common mistake. The basic principle of getting yourself out of debt is to stop spending. Write a list of the items you need for your household BEFORE you go to the supermarket. When you’re in the store ignore the buy one get one free offers, buy tow for three etc and actually just buy what you need. You’ll be surprised how much smaller your shopping bill is at the end. You see the trick the supermarkets play is to get you to purchase more by laying on these unbeatable, un-missable, truly fantastic last minute offers with a deadline. You then go and purchase the two for three boxes of jam tarts, buy one get one free bottle of wine. You don’t need them and most of the time they’ll probably just sit around in your cupboard waiting for next avalanche of food items to join them.

6. This point will contradict the first one a little, but you’ll see that it make perfect sense. If an item that you purchase regularly is on offer, then buying them when they are on offer is absolutely, i.e. Diapers, coffee, sugar etc. These essential items can be bought and saves you money in the long run. It’s the items you don’t need that you have to stay well clear from!

7. Shop at your MAIN convenience store.

Don’t worry; this isn’t ad for your main store. How many of you get those late night cravings and then somehow find your way down to your local convenience store. Did you know that these stores regularly mark their items up anywhere between 10-50%? If you’ve got one nearby, shop at your main supermarket and if you’re even luckier it’ll be open 24 hrs. This tip alone will save you hundreds of dollars a month without even thinking about it. If they’re not open 24 hrs. Try purchasing a small quantity of these items in your next weekly or monthly shop instead of running to the local convenience store to satisfy your cravings every time. This will keep you on tract eliminate debt fast.

8. Find out why your credit application has been denied

You may have been denied credit because of information supplied by a credit bureau. Did you know that federal law actually requires the creditor to give you the name of the bureau that supplied the information? Simply contact that credit bureau within 60 days of receiving the denial, and obtain a free copy of your credit report. Every country has their own bureau. Do a check online to find your local one. There maybe errors on your report. If there are, you’re entitled to have it investigated by the bureau free of charge.

9. Ask for a Discount

This is an old trick going back to Roman times. “A penny saved is a penny earned”. Each and every dollar you save is an extra one in your pocket. I know that some people will have problems doing this, and that’s absolutely fine. A simple technique that can be used is basically asking the vendor what their best price is. That’s it. That simple little question has saved people thousands. All you’re doing is asking if there’s a better price for the item. Now, 6 times out of the ten times you try this you may get knocked back. I guarantee you, the more times you ask this question the more effective it will become. Believe it or not most local stores expect it.

10. The last point is simple. Keep try all of the techniques and tips over and over again. If you fall out of routine, don’t worry. Simply get back on track and try again. Whether you save $50 dollars this month and then save $75 dollars three months later doesn’t matter. The fact is, you’d have saved valuable dollars to help pay those essential bills. Try it.

Work from home programs are in great demand with the coming of another year. Some people are looking to replace their day job, while others are looking to simply make some extra money to pay bills. After the holidays it’s no surprise as many people have been forced to use their credit cards to pay for gifts, trips and normal bills.Some are looking to create additional income so they can buy back some time. Many have a great desire to spend more time with friends and family. I can say that it is very enjoyable to be able to work from the comfort of your home.

Well, you might be wondering what types of work at home programs you could do. Well if you have minimal typing skills, a computer and access to the Internet you can more than likely do the following programs:

4. Online Paid Surveys
5. Home Phone Jobs

There are also programs whereby you can save money on the things you already buy monthly, which leaves more money for other things. The time requirements for most work at home programs are very flexible and I found that you can normally do them at your own pace. The important thing to remember is that you will have to have the self-discipline to make sure you put in the work at home. Some people have to have a day job, but many do not. First an overview:

Since we’re all now all supposed to be going green low energy saving light bulbs has popped up as one of the greatest bright ideas (no pun intended). They’re meant to be energy saving and money saving too! In essence, they use up to 80 per cent less electricity than a standard bulb, but produce the same amount of light. This is undoubtedly a phenomenon meaning you can be good to the environment as well as saving money.

Advances in technology mean that energy saving light bulbs is now available in a wide variety of fittings, shapes and sizes to suit all. They are fast becoming the norm and the recommended alternative to the outdated bulb.

Just recently the Environment Agency has called for more information to be made available on the health and environmental risks posed by low-energy light bulbs.

These bulbs actually contain a small amount of mercury (Mercury(IPA: /ˈmɜrkjʊri/), also called quicksilver, is a chemical element with the symbol Hg (Latinized Greek: hydrargyrum, meaning watery or liquid silver). Mercury is commonly used in thermometers, manometers, barometers, sphygmomanometers, float valves, and other scientific apparatus. There are in fact a few concerns about mercury’s toxicity have led to mercury thermometers and sphygmomanometers being largely phased out in clinical environments in favour of alcohol-filled, digital, or thermistor-based instruments.

The Environment Agency suggests more information is provided about the safe recycling of these products. It also wants clear and precise health warnings printed on all packaging and information exactly how to clear up smashed bulbs in our home.

There is, however, a toxicologist called Dr David Spurgeon that says “Because these light bulbs contain small amounts of mercury they could cause a problem if they are disposed of in a normal waste-bin. “

“It is possible that the mercury they contain could be released either into the air or from land-fill when they are released into the wider environment.”

“That’s a concern, because mercury is a well known toxic substance.”

Advice from the Department of the Environment states that if you accidentally smash a low-energy bulb in your home you’ve got to make sure that the room is vacated for at least 15 minutes, making sure not to vacuum any of the debris and taking care not to inhale the dust particles.

They basically instruct us to use rubber gloves when picking up the low energy bulb fragments and putting them into a sealed plastic bag, then taking it down to your local council for disposal.

A vacuum cleaner should not be used to clear up the debris, and care should be taken not to inhale the dust.
